Changing a Company Name in Kenya

Learn the procedures for changing, adding, or deleting an existing company name or trade name online through your eCitizen account.

1. Apply Online on the Ecitizen BRS Portal

To change your company name via eCitizen, follow the following steps:

  1. Log in to eCitizen at Business Registration Service (BRS).
  2. On your dashboard, click on VIEW under the 'My Businesses' section and select the company you wish to rename.
  3. Choose "Maintain a Company" and then select "Change of Name."

2. Check for the Preferred Name's Availability

Propose at least three names and enter your new preferred names in order of priority and ensure that the new name comply with all the rules for naming and reserving a company or business name.

3. Pay the Required Fee

Pay Kes 4,050 and submit the application for name confirmation and approval.

4. Submit the New Name Change Request for Approval

Await for the new name review and approval, you will receive an SMS notification for any corrections needed.

5. Download Sign and Scan CR15 and CR19 Form

Once the new name is confirmed, you will be instructed to upload CR15 & CR19 forms, which are generated by the system after completing the above mentioned steps.

To complete the application process, follow these steps:

  1. Click on "Edit Application" and provide details about the resolution passed.
  2. Select one or more directors to confirm that the resolution complies with legal requirements.
  3. The system will generate CR15 and CR19 forms for you.
  4. Download, sign, scan, and upload these forms back into the system.

6. Obtain a New Certificate of Incorporation

Submit your application for review. The company name will not officially change until the Registrar of Companies approves and registers it.

Once approved, you can download the certificate of name change from your application downloads section.

7. Timeline for Changing a Company Name

The entire application process may take approximately one week to complete.

8. Update Your Company Details with KRA

Ensure that once you receive the new certificate of registration, you apply for a PIN amendment on the KRA iTax portal to reflect the change.

9. Change the Company Statutory Registrations

After the KRA update, you must also notify your bank, NSSF, NHIF,SHA, suppliers and customers of the change in name.
