This is a permanent residency certificate issued to citizens born in Kenya who subsequently renounced or lost their citizenship and were denied dual citizenship by their country of residence. Children and spouses of these applicants may also apply.

A person who was a Kenyan citizen at birth but have now renounced or lost their Kenyan citizenship and are denied the opportunity to hold dual citizenship by their country of residence.

What documentation is required to apply for permanent residency as an ex-Kenyan citizen?

  1. Application letter.
  2. Printout of the duly filled permanent residence application form (Form 23) from the eFNS Portal, signed and stamped by a Magistrate or Commissioner for Oaths.
  3. Printout of the completed Category A - Questionnaire for Intending Applicants, generated upon completion of the online application from the eFNS Portal
  4. Proof of Former Kenyan Citizenship: Copy of Birth Certificate, ID Card, or Passport.
  5. Two recent passport-size photographs
  6. Police Clearance Certificate issued by the country of residence
  7. Proof of current citizenship: Registration, Naturalization Certificate, and Passport.

How to apply for permanent residency for ex-Kenyan citizens?

  1. Create an account on the Foreign Nationals Services (eFNS) portal.
  2. Sign in to your newly created account.
  3. Click the "Submit New Application" tab.
  4. Navigate to  "Permanent Residence Services" then select the "Permanent Residence" tab.
  5. Once processed, an invoice will be generated. Access it by clicking "Dashboard" and then "Payments."
  6. 6. If unable to pay online, print your registration form from "Dashboard"  "My Applications."
  7. Submit your application with all requirements to the Immigration office in Nairobi or the Kenya Overseas Mission in your country of origin for payment and processing.

You will receive automatic notifications via email and in your online account about your registration's progress.
