National Registration Bureau

The National Registration Bureau (NRB) in Kenya is responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the Registration of Persons Act (Cap 107), Laws of Kenya. Established in 1978, the NRB’s primary functions include:

  • Compulsory identification, registration, and issuance of identity cards to Kenyan citizens who are 18 years and above.
  • Maintaining a semi-automated registration system that issues secure national identity cards.
  • Playing a crucial role in the country’s security, socio-economic, and political development through citizen identification.

The NRB also contributes to national security and development by maintaining a comprehensive register for use by stakeholders and other agencies.
